Responsibilities

Work Schedule:

Schedule: Varies, required to rotate days/nights, 12 hour shifts, 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next
Required to work rotating holidays and weekends.

 

Job Specific Position Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Coordinate inpatient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals (physicians/nurse practitioner/physician assistants). Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. The ICU Critical Care Nurse shall respect and maintain the basic rights of patients, demonstrating concern for personal dignity and human relationships.
• Perform physical exam and health histories. ICU Critical Care nurse will treat will treat and receive patients, prepare and maintain records, pull and file patient medical records, perform basic secretarial skills, handle telephone calls and written correspondence, serve as a liaison between physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other medical staff.
• Provide health promotions, counseling, and education. The ICU Critical Care Nurse should have the ability to acquire and use basic computer skills to enter patient data and extract patient information using Computer Health Care System (CHCS), Preventive Health Assessment Individual Medical Record (PIMR), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) and Essentris Inpatient Documentation System.
• Administer medications (monitor/mix, administer titrate), wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions. ICU Critical Care Nurse will also be able to accomplish dysrhythmia recognition, arterial blood gas interpretation, hemodynamic pressure interpretation, assist with synchronized cardioversion, perform emergency defibrillation (with knowledgeable use of
defibrillation machine), administer thrombolytic agents, perform the postoperative recovery and discharge within established criteria.
• Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations. The ICU Critical Care Nurse shall respond appropriately to emergencies and initiate life saving measures in the absence of a physician
• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and
organization.
• Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate. They shall not recommend to the patient that he/she consult a specific practitioner or use a specific practice.
• Perform nursing services in arterial punctures, draw blood from invasive monitoring lines, assist with temporary pacemaker insertion, apply noninvasive external pacemaker, and obtain hemodynamic variables. The ICU Critical nurse will interpret lab values, care for patients with Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, mechanical ventilators, and give inhalation therapy treatments with knowledge of medications utilized.
• Documentation. Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records and follow the MTF’s Do Not Use Abbreviation List. (AFI 44-172 / AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards, 5 November 2013)
• Medical Records Documentation. Health care providers shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: Minimum ASN; BSN desired
* Experience: Minimum of (2) years experience with at least (1) year in a critical care area of (4) or more beds.  One year of experience must have occurred within the last three years.

* Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license from any state.

* Clinical Certification: TNCC or ATCN Certification desired; if not current, ERP will reimburse for completion.

* Life Support Certifications: Possess current ARC or AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS.

* Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
