Work Schedule:
Normal schedule is 9 hours between 6:00am and 6:00pm, with a one-hour lunch

CORE Duties for NP:
• Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
• Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
• Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.
• Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
• Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
• Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.
CORE Duties for PA:
• Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
• Technically direct and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions in order to diagnose, prescribe for and treat diseases, disorders and injuries, and refer the more complex cases and serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform designated treatment.
• Technically direct and teach other staff, provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
• Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
• Prescribe in accordance with approved treatment protocols and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved medications and immunizations.
• Identify a medical problem and determine appropriate action to meet the problem, including referral to a physician.
• Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with scope of practice.
• Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nursing and others in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.
• Teach patients and family member's healthy regimen and responsibility for achieving wellness.
• Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement.
Practice Specific Details and Tasks: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Shall participate in the monthly peer review program of clinical notes and/or performance; typically, a minimum of 10 routine cases seen in the last 30 days.
• Provide outpatient services for patients as scheduled by the MTF.
• Provide inpatient consultation. This will include new patients when consults are requested by the health care team. He/she must be able to perform unsupervised and be able to supervise house staff performing gastroenterology procedures within their scope of practice and privileges.
• See new patient consults and established follow-up clinic visits. The provider is expected to respond to telephone consults and inform patients of lab and radiology results in a timely manner.
• Provide inpatient, urgent, and same day consultations on a "walk-in" basis.
• Shall perform and assist with Gastroenterology-related procedures that are medically indicated and are within their scope of practice and privileges.
• Documentation. Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records and follow the MTF’s Do Not Use Abbreviation List. (AFI 44-172 / AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards, 5 November 2013)
• Medical Records Documentation. Health care providers shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient.
• Coding. Contractor employees shall use the proper coding of procedures and treatment and shall maintain coding accuracy (CPT/E&M/procedure) at the same standard, 90% or higher, as military and civil service health care providers engaged in comparable work.
• Ensures patient and staff safety through safety awareness, proper infection control and promotion for clean, orderly clinic environment. Recognizes, reports, and corrects potential safety hazards.
• Shall consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required.
• Shall direct supporting Government employees assigned to them during the performance of clinical duties. Guides the performance of assigned personnel. Uses team approach toward staff and patient management.
• Shall perform administrative duties that may include participating in medical education programs, quality improvement functions and other duties as prescribed by the Flight Commander.
• Shall be scheduled to participate in formal educational lectures; approximately 2 per year, during billable hours.
• Shall provide instruction for medical residents, physician assistant students, medical students and/or students of other health care disciplines in the form of clinical rotations, didactics, and inpatient discussions as appropriate.
• Shall possess basic knowledge in management and daily operation of a clinic.

• Shall possess basic knowledge of operating a wide variety of medical equipment/non- medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety, proper equipment maintenance and accessibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Master in Nursing for NP; from accredited program (ACEN or CCNE), or Bachelors in Physician Assistant Studies for PA; from accredited program (ARC-PA).
* Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in Gastroenterology, within the past 3 years
* License: Active, unrestricted license as an NP or PA in the state of Florida
* Board Certification: ANCC or AANP for Nurse Practitioner; NCCPA for Physician Assistant
* Life Support Certifications: BLS and ACLS are required
* Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
