Work Schedule:
Sunday - Saturday, days or nights, up to 12 hour shifts
Call and Call-Back required on rotational basis with other staff
Job Specific Position Duties:
• Performs routine and complex MRI examinations.
• Reviews images to ensure quality standards are met.
• Ensures all guidelines are followed for use of any MRI machine and appropriate coils are properly used to demonstrate patient’s anatomy.
• Screens patient’s history for contraindications, assesses ferromagnetic implants, and prepares patients to ensure MRI scans are performed safely.
• Sets controls for appropriate weighted images and sequence for each scan performed.
• Operates digital radiography systems to transfer images from MRI machine operator’s console to Picture Archiving and Communications System.
• Explains methods and safety precautions of procedures, starts IVs when needed, positions patient and produces images for the requested examination.
• Directed by staff Radiologists, follows NCOIC and IOC guidelines.
• Uses Electronic Health Record to arrive and depart patients for scheduled and unscheduled examinations.
• Performs other administrative duties relative to MRI.
• Provides after-hours on call imaging support for the Emergency Department and inpatient units.
• Age range of patients: Typically, 6 years of age and older.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to include advanced knowledge of cross sectional anatomy applicable to MRI.
• Medical terminology and ethics; legal aspects of medicine; healthcare accreditation standards; MRI physics
• Be able to instruct patients in preparations for exams.
• Comprehensive knowledge of administering contrast media. Familiarization with contrast reactions. Proper handling and storage of contrast.
• Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement within MRI.
• Knowledge of physics of magnetism, RF waves, MRI safety.
• Trains and assesses staff competence, monitors appropriateness of care and completeness of examination requests.
• Performs various administrative duties such as uploading, faxing, and scanning patient documentation utilizing electronic health care systems.
• Performs quality control duties such as arriving, departing and transcribing orders. Operates image viewing system and manipulates studies as required.
• Quality control procedures; infection control; aseptic and sterile techniques; reactions to contrast media; and medical records administration.
• Basic electromagnetism theory; techniques of operating MRI equipment, positioning; patient care and monitoring exam parameters; image recording media and processing techniques
Minimum Qualifications:
* Degree/Education: Must have completed high school or general education development equivalency. Must have completed an accredited MRI technologist course.
* Experience: At least 2 years independently operating MRI equipment. Experience operating MRI equipment, producing and processing exam images, and assisting with fluoroscopy and special MRI procedures.
* Licensure/Certification: Current registration as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Must maintain currency during the duration of the contract.
* Life Support Certification: BLS from American Red Cross or American Health Association.
* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
