Responsibilities

Schedule:
8 - 10 hour days, not to exceed 45 hours per week, Sunday - Saturday
12 - 15 hours possible overtime per month
 
Job Specific Details and Tasks:

 

• Perform pharmacy technician duties including, but not limited to, entering orders into electronic health records, compound intravenous medication orders, compound Chemo therapeutic intravenous medications.
• Understand and enforce compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 regulations to include proper wear of barrier/protective clothing, beyond use dating, and aseptic technique.
• Understand and ensure compliance with The Joint Commission regulations throughout the facility.
• Manage patient-specific pharmacokinetic regimens to include vancomycin, anticoagulants, and aminoglycosides.
• Assess metabolic needs and order therapeutic parenteral nutrition products.
• Provide medication and healthcare related in-service training to clinical staff on new medications on the market, appropriate use of medications, comparison of current medication therapies, and other topics as deemed appropriate by the department head.
• Provide clinical direction to pharmacy personnel.
• Consult with patient care teams through multi-disciplinary rounds and antimicrobial stewardship monitoring to ensure evidence-based patient care.
• Document pharmacy interventions appropriately in the EHR.
• Document significant adverse medication events with prescribers, in the patient’s medical record, and in the Patient Safety Reporting system.
• Document and report patient safety concerns using the Patient Safety Reporting system.
• Facilitate medical staff drug utilization reviews (DURs) as deemed necessary.
• Exhibit basic competency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint and be able to type 40 words per minute.
• Perform ward and or clinic inspections, maintain pharmacy automation systems, and deliver Pyxis and patient orders to wards and clinics.
• Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases.
• Perform information consultation duties including supporting new and refill prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physician’s requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions.
• Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage
• inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation.
• Perform supply process duties including placing new orders, stocking/restocking
• shelves, inventory maintenance, producing not in stock reports.
• Perform outpatient and/or inpatient pharmacy technician duties including, but not limited to, entering orders into electronic health records, compound intravenous medication orders, compound Chemo therapeutic intravenous medications, answering phones, conduct daily narcotic inventory.
• Perform ward and or clinic inspections, maintain pharmacy automation systems, and deliver Pyxis and patient orders to wards and clinics.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Certificate. Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program)or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military. Certification: Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full-time experience within the last 36 months as a pharmacy technician.
Board Certification: Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA ExCPT)..
Life Support Certifications: BLS, Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) by the American Heart Association.
Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
 
Pay Scale: $27.07/hr to $34/hr, to be determined based on employment options, qualifications, experience, and location
