Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm
Position Summary: the support services shall provide interim Biomedical Engineering services to successfully ensure on-time and/or timely completion of work, including technology assessment, implementation and configuration of medical systems, technology sustainment, and incoming inspections at the new medical center.
Job Specific Details and Tasks: The duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Test and calibrate components using manufacturers' manuals and troubleshooting techniques, hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.
• Keep records of maintenance, repair, and required updates of equipment.
• Inspect and test malfunctioning medical and related equipment following manufacturers' specifications, using test and analysis instruments.
• Disassemble malfunctioning equipment and remove, repair and replace defective parts such as motors, transformers, and circuit boards.
• Perform preventive maintenance or service such as cleaning, lubricating and adjusting equipment in accordance with OEM specifications.
• Test, evaluate, and classify excess or in-use medical equipment and determine serviceability, condition, and disposition in accordance with regulations.
• Examine medical equipment and facility's structural environment and check for proper use of equipment, to protect patients and staff from electrical or mechanical hazards. Ensures compliance with safety regulations and policies.
• Study technical manuals and attend training sessions provided by equipment manufacturers to maintain current knowledge.
• Provide training to medical staff by explaining and demonstrating correct operation and operator preventive maintenance of medical equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Minimum of an Associates Degree in an applied science or equivalent military training; Certification as a Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) is highly desired, but not required.
* Experience: At least three years performing medical equipment maintenance in a hospital or healthcare setting, with a minimum of one-year specialized experience with medical imaginf equipment.
* Mandatory Knowledge and Skills:
1) Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner.
2) Comprehensive knowledge of imaging techniques, technologies, radiological practices and procedures.
3) Demonstrated competency in maintaining medical imaging systems; ability to resolve highly complex breakdowns that have an immediate risk to patient safety; ability to maintain and troubleshoot networked medical imaging equipment to include VLAN configuration, IP addressing, sub-netting, and network security, and build, configure, repair and install workstations and servers in imaging and non-imaging environments; ability to utilize and maintain computer and server based medical equipment, medical record databases, and proprietary and generic software; experience with TCP/IP, HL7, networking, and DICOM standards.
4) Experience working in or with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) OR Understanding of VISN, VA medical center, and Biomedical Engineering dept operations
5) Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standards.
6) Skill in using advanced radiological test equipment such as radiation dosimeters, calibration phantoms, high voltage testing devices, KV and MA meters and monitor calibration devices.
7) Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
