Responsibilities

Schedule:

Monday - Friday  0600-1800 - 8.5 hour shifts

No Holidays or Weekends!


Core Duties:

• Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival.
• Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
• Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading.
• Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs on the correct form.
• Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered.
• Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms.
• Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.
• Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.

 

Additonal Duties for Internal Medicine/Pediatrics

• Operate the following medical equipment, as directed, such as Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor, Manual Blood Pressure Monitor, Handheld Nebulizer, EKG Machine (1 2 lead), Electronic Thermometer, IV infusion pump (Set-up only), Tympanometer.
• Operate and manipulate automated systems such as MHS Genesis and Carepoint as prescribed by the Commander. Maintain DOD email account as directed. The HCW shall be responsive to all message center, email, and voicemail communications. Anticipated roles in MHS Genesis are Ambulatory LVN/ Health Technician and Registration Clerk role to complete their tasks including complete intake form, medication refill/ renewal, referrals, booking appointments, checking-in patients, communicating with other members of the healthcare team.
• Assists providers with invasive or non-invasive examinations or procedures. Performs/assists with a variety of ambulatory procedures as ordered by and under the direction of a credentialed provider.
• Administers oral medications, gives subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections to patients, and administers immunizations and nebulizer treatments as ordered after completion of required training and demonstration of competency. Makes necessary judgments prior to administration of certain medications based on practical knowledge of the physiological effect, current condition of the patient and awareness of proper dosage.
• Record medications administered. Reports and record any reaction to medication and/or treatment.
• Performs venipuncture for blood draws and intravenous (IV) access after completion of required training and demonstration of competency. Monitors and discontinues IV therapy as directed.
• Monitors patients undergoing procedures and identifies patients in acute distress or with potential for acuity change. Observes significant changes in patients3 conditions and reports problems that require higher -level actions /interventions to the credentialed provider.

 

Additional Duties for Orthopedic:

• The Medical Assistant (MA) will function as a clinical support team member embedded within the Maxillofacial Surgery service and the Center of Excellence in Maxillofacial Restoration. The MA will primarily support the Nurse Practitioner (NP) and surgical team to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural settings.
• Support the NP and Maxillofacial Surgery providers during outpatient clinics, inpatient care activities, and procedural encounters
• Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, chief complaints, and relevant clinical information
• Assist with clinic flow, patient throughput, and preparation of examination and procedure rooms

• Perform basic clinical tasks within scope of training and institutional policy (e.g., wound care assistance, dressing changes, suture removal when authorized, specimen handling).
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist during minor procedures as directed by licensed providers
• Coordinate scheduling, referrals, imaging, laboratory studies, and follow-up appointments in collaboration with the NP and clinical team
• Support documentation workflows, including ensuring completion of forms, scanning records, and assisting with EHR-related tasks as appropriate
• Facilitate communication between patients, providers, residents, nursing staff, and ancillary services.
• Assist with patient education, discharge instructions, and care coordination under provider direction.
• Maintain clinic organization, equipment readiness, and supply inventory
• Support quality, safety, and operational initiatives related to the Center of Excellence
• Uphold patient privacy, infection control standards, and institutional policies at all times
• The MA role is designed to enhance clinical efficiency, patient experience, and team-based care delivery.
• Experience supporting providers in outpatient clinic settings; exposure to impatient or procedural environments preferred
• Familiarity with patient intake, rooming, vital signs, and basic clinical documentation
• Clinical & Technical Skills
• Ability to perform clinical tasks within scope of training and institutional policy, including vital signs, room preparation, wound care assistance, specimen handling, and patient preparation for procedures
• Knowledge of infection control practices, sterile technique basics, and patient safety standards.
• Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), scheduling systems, and basic clinical documentation workflows

• Ability to assist with scheduling, referrals, imaging, laboratory coordination, and follow-up appointments.

• Ability to comply with institutional policies, HIPAA regulations, and infection prevention standards
• Ability to perform job duties requiring standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients as needed
• Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting; surgical specialty, procedural, or hospital-based experience preferred (ENT, Plastic Surgery and/or maxillofacial surgery experience preferred).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Degree: Certificate
• Education:
Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
• Experience:
One year of expereince within the last two years a CMA. 

• Certification: Certified Medical Assistant Only: Current certification as a medical assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants or Current registration by the American Medical Technologists or other formal program.

Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
• Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.

 

Pay Scale: $22.97 - 27.00 per hour, to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and location
